(2018) The subject of tourism is fascinating. A number of cities and countries depend on tourism to keep their economy afloat. The industry sometimes builds non-functioning monuments to serve as tourist magnets. At times these buildings can influence a skyline. Tourism can also have the impact of preserving historical structures and protecting natural beauty.
When visiting an attraction, sometimes the number of tourists ends up being the most memorable part of the experience. Visitors can overwhelm a site itself. Some people find this frustrating. I find it compelling. For me, the experience is not only about the attraction; it’s about the tourists’ interaction with the site and how the landscape is altered by their presence.
